Here are some basic descriptions for some skills. At the bottom of the page are three videos from England hockey on passing, dribbling and short corners that are well worth a watch...

Passing

Push

Basic grip (hands apart, left hand at the top of the stick). Keep low. The ball starts near the right foot, and, keeping the stick in contact with the ball transfer your weight from your right to left foot. Follow through, keeping the stick on the ball for as long as possible.

Hit

Double V grip (both hands at the top of the stick) with the ball level with your front foot. Feet and shoulders are in line with the target. Get low and do a backswing being careful not to rotate the stick. Turn your shouders and cock your wrists. Step towards the ball. When hitting on the move, the right foot crosses behind the left foot  to get the body in the correct position.

Aerial

Basic grip, get low and step in. The ball is in front of your left foot, and you are side on to your target line. Smoothly accererate the stick head once in contact with the ball. Just before release lever the left hand down against the right for power.

Reverse Stick

Sweep

Frying pan grip (like you're holding a frying pan). The stickk stays in contact with the ground on the backswing and follow through. Hit the ball with the toe edge of the stick when the ball is in front of the right foot.
