Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Lauren, also known as Judith, and this year I am lucky enough (or foolish enough!) to be the club captain of ICSM Ladies Hockey Club. I have been a member since day one of my university life and I have absolutely no regrets. I really hope this year I can give back something to a club that has given me a tremendous amount fun and provided me with some amazing friends. However, this is not just my club, it is that of every single member who plays hockey. So if any of you have any ideas/changes that you want to see put into place then please please please just get in touch.

So, just to let you know a little bit about the club…

We are very lucky at ICSM Ladies Hockey to be able to field 3 teams a week in both BUCS and ULU leagues, and on top of this a Saturday side in the Middlesex League. With players of all abilities - absolutely everyone gets to play. We offer coached training on a Thursday to develop our skills and also a fun fitness session on a Monday for those keen (which admittedly not everyone attends!). We have ever strengthening links with our counterpart 'red trousered' hockey boys and our alumni, making being a member of our club an even more enjoyable experience.

The Middlesex League has been one of our greatest achievements in recent years, and with a mixture of players from all Wednesday teams, it has certainly increased everyone's playing abilities and confidence. We have now been proudly promoted to Division 1 where we should meet some suitable competition to keep us on our toes.

The hockey year begins with a pre-season mixed tour (this year - Blackpool here we come!), followed by a pre-season meal so everyone can have a good catch up after the summer break. This is followed by the introduction of the freshers and new-bees from all years, accompanied by our mixed social tour to Oxford, where a lot of fun is had by all. After a busy first term of matches and socials, the Christmas holiday is welcomed by a carol filled, fancy dressed Christmas Dinner. Rejuvenated after the break, Varsity is on everyone's mind with the big match in February - Imperial Medics vs. Imperial College. The season is rounded off by a mixed black tie AGM and Dinner, where we celebrate the end of another excellent season, reward the hard work done by the committee and bid a sad farewell to some. But that's not quite the end, Easter provides us with the much anticipated Canterbury Hockey Festival. And for those oldies who have to spend their summers in hospital there's always a bit of fun mixed hockey to keep us going over the summer months.

The most exciting thing ahead of us is our upcoming International Tour. We have been to Spain, so it's time to stretch a little further this time. This leaves us with a year or two packed full of fundraising to allow everyone to be able to participate in one of sport's most enjoyable aspects. Any tour enquiries get in touch with Suzie, our tour co-ordinator.

If you are a member of ICSM Hockey, then please always feel free to contact me/approach me, I'm absolutely open to any ideas that you may have. If you're at Imperial and you're not a member then come along and check us out, we don't bite, and if it's not your cup of tea then we won't force you to stay!  And if you are just reading this and are neither of the above then we thank you for your interest in our club!
For the last 4 years of being a member I have seen ICSM Ladies Hockey Club develop from a club where people simply play sport together, to become one large group of friends, where people go out of their way to help others. I am certainly very proud to be a member of ICSM Hockey, and can't imagine what my life at Med-school would be without the fun I've had and the people I have been privileged to meet in the hockey club. With new kit this year, it promises to be yet another exciting season. We look forward to a fun-packed year with the usual delights of tours, socials and a little bit of hockey! Get in touch any time throughout the year if you fancy joining in!
